In the past, updates were frowned upon. The testing of update patches was not as good as it is today, causing some applications to crash. This is no longer the case. It is important to keep ALL your applications up to date, as well as your version of Windows. With the large numbers of apps we have on our computers these days, it’s easy to miss an update. Besides virus protection, updating programs stops vulnerabilities that hackers can use to compromise your PC to infect with Trojans, Virus’ and Key-loggers.
Here are a couple tips to keep your system safe. First, make sure you have “Windows Update” set up to run automatically at a scheduled time when your computer is on. Otherwise, manually run the updates AT LEAST once a month. Second, I recommend installing a free program called Secunia PSI. PSI scans your computer and alerts you when applications or your OS (Operating System) needs updates or patches. When the little red bars appear in the bottom bar (System Tray) its time to open PSI and update the necessary patches.
