Tucows is moving into the U.S. mobile market, reselling the Sprint Network.
First off, they separate Voice / Data / Text plans. For someone like me that uses Skype for Voice, and Google Voice for Text, that is huge. I will only need to purchase a data plan.
About the rates:
|Select your plans||XS||S||M||L||XL||XXL|
Minutes beyond XXL are 2¢
|Text Messages (Global)
Messages beyond XXL are 1/4¢
|Megabytes (Nationwide 3G/4G)
Megabytes beyond XXL are 2.25¢
|Devices (Each active device is $6/month)|
So theoretically, I could have a cell phone for $9 a month.
Secondly, there are no overage penalties. See the chart above, the prices beyond the plan limit seem reasonable.
One downside is (it seems like) you can’t bring your own device to the plan.
But there are many other pluses on the website including NO CONTRACT. I will be doing some more research on this, you might want to too. It would be nice if a real competitor started that didn’t look to hijack your wallet. Let’s check it out, let me know what you think: https://ting.com/
